Struggling (with) masculinities tries to answer bell hooks’ call for “guides that will show us how to create a world where feminist masculinity thrives”. When men engage with feminism, they put themselves into the ambivalent position of trying to get rid of their own privileges, and into a privileged position within the feminist struggle. Thus, both academic and activist approaches to critical masculinity are confronted with hefty critique. Two of these critiques have been used as criteria to assess critical masculinity theory and practice for developing a workshop, using Theory U as a framework. After conducting the workshop in academic and activist spaces, the workshop is transformed into an exhibition format, inviting visitors to engage with critical masculinity.
