Immersive Stereotomy

Projektbeschreibung
The project aims to break the boundaries of prevailing CAD-based design, by including the intuition of handmade artisanal practices into the design process. The project is a teahouse, designed with stone in VR, where the stone-cutting logic is embedded in the design tool. Tea-making and stone-cutting are artisanal processes where tacit knowledge plays a crucial role. They not only encourage slowing down, but celebrate the beauty of imperfection. The integration of VR captures body gestures into the virtual realm, creating a connection for working across scales and translation of gestures to robotic fabrication of stonecutting. This project redefines the relationship between the body and space through non-standardized digital handmaking of a crafted space for interaction.
