4th place is designed as an informal public space, without the compulsion to consume physical goods, emphasizing public participation through digital tools. A semi-virtual public library and a cultural community hub in Vienna on the Danube Canal close to Urania.
There are three types of social environments: home, workspace and community space.

4th place exists alongside the three realms and can be interpreted as an informal community space. Social media and the internet are regulating the speed of society and smartphones are considered as socially isolating devices. The proposed 4th place argues for using ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in order to strengthen social-physical encounters through public participation. By developing a public space that meanders between the 3rd and 4th place typology, social interaction between strangers will be considered a key driver and objective for the project.
