Projektbeschreibung
correspondent trans*mutations is a research project investigating how practices of becoming – such as mattering, fermentation, and spending time – can function as sites of relational ‘trans* mutation’. Through workshops centered on somatic and material processes, participants corresponded through letter writing while collectively caring for kombucha SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast), transforming it into bio-leather.
The research foregrounds interdependent, intra-active threads enmeshing vibrant matter across different temporalities. ‘Trans*mutation’ is understood as an ongoing relational process in which change emerges through correspondence, co-affection and movement, and in which bodies (human and more-than-human) are entangled in an ongoing act of continuous becoming.
The project is presented as an installation in which letters and bio-leather form a suspended assemblage, accompanied by a score that invites visitors to correspond with the work. Temporary and open-ended, the installation extends the collective process of correspondent trans*mutations towards a spatially embodied experience.
