Facing new challenges and feeling safe in Vienna with my family, was the goal I‘ve been striving for after living in a time of war. I started to paint abstractly, working on the themes of Violence and Hate. I sometimes treated my paintings roughly, similar to how life during war treated us. I switched to painting the Good Memories that I had in Damascus when there was peace. Contradictions: many people are living with injustice, fear. Losing people we love. At the same time, life goes on. What helps me to feel better lately is when I paint or draw people sitting outside enjoying their time in parks, cafes, etc. I think if we appreciate the value of this peaceful life we are living right now, we might see more clearly what is happening around us. Maybe then we will be able to feel, think better, and help more. Healing efforts will continue ...
