Sophie Krachler

The inventory of the mummy collection of the NHM in Vienna is small but very diverse. It includes mummified human remains from various countries and eras. Within the framework of this thesis, the inventory and condition of the mummy collection are analysed. Information about the provenience are documented. Focus of the thesis is the development and implementation of a new storage concept. Scientific analyses on the pollution burden of the mummies and their surrounding areas, as well as questions on the ethically correct handling of human remains in museums, are discussed.
